Traditional cultural training is great. It's just different from what we do. When we started developing our unique methodology there were loads of cultural training companies on the market, and we didn't set out to compete with them. They perform an important role preparing individuals and teams for living in different countries or interacting cross-culturally. They go into the dos and don'ts, business etiquette, accents, language and so on.
When we started out back in 2016, we started with a proposition. We recognised that the impact of cultural differences in global teams was not addressed internally within organisations. In fact, it's still a taboo subject. Rude, or even racist? Hence best avoided or ignored.
So we started to research this phenomenon. We found that cultural differences were leading to frustration and confusion on all sides. That research into project failures in outsourcing always cited 'cultural and communication issues' as a main cause of failure, yet beyond traditional cultural training, it wasn't addressed.
We set out on a mission to investigate this. The result? CAT - a performance improvement programme for global teams that brings all parties into the change process. Traditional cultural training, we found, could actually lead to a heightened sense of 'them' and 'us' as it teaches each side of an engagement how to best interact with the other. The CAT programme brings everyone into the change process, so everyone changes together.
We start with a CAT pilot so we can measure performance and engagement level changes in a Test versus Control setting. This is because we've seen the dramatic changes that happen to global teams when they're culturally aligned, and want to demonstrate them through proven results.
We've found that culturally aligning global teams also has a positive knock-on effect for attrition levels and can even be leveraged for new hiring campaigns. By culturally aligning everyone around a single, high-performance culture, we create the kind of cultures people want to join and stay in.
We're innovators in the world of global team performance.
